Why was my transfer rejected?

A transfer can be not executed or delayed for various reasons.

In most cases there is no technical fault, but a regulatory or system-related restriction in payment processing.

Below you will find the most common causes and how to proceed.

Status "Pending"

If a transfer shows the status "Pending", it means:

The transaction has been initiated, but not yet executed.

The money has not yet been debited from the account, but your available balance is already reduced.

This status can remain for a few hours up to several days, depending on the review process and bank processing time.

Possible reasons for delays or rejections

TARGET closing days (bank holidays in the SEPA area)

No SEPA transfers are processed on the following days:

  • Saturday & Sunday

  • New Year's Day (January 1)

  • Good Friday & Easter Monday

  • Labor Day (May 1)

    December 25 & 26 (Christmas)

Manual review by Swan

In individual cases, your transfer may be manually reviewed, e.g. for unusually high amounts, new payees or missing information in the payment reference.
During the review, Swan may request additional information.

Rejected or returned transaction

After an internal review, Swan may reject the transfer.
In this case, no money is debited from your account and you receive a notification about the rejected status.

What you can do

  • Check whether a holiday or weekend is involved.

  • If necessary, wait until the next bank processing run (business days).

  • Check your emails to see whether Swan has requested additional information.

  • If the status "Pending" remains longer than usual (more than 2 banking days), please contact COMMITLY Support.
We will start the review together with Swan.

Note: In most cases, "pending" or "rejected" transactions resolve automatically within a few business days.
