Planning view overview

The Planning overview combines a visual display of liquidity development (chart and table) with a detailed table view. It serves as the central control element and supports bank meetings, financing decisions and internal company planning.

Plan management / planning functions (header area)

Drop-down menu for selecting which plans are displayed. Create plan function.

Above the chart, you will also find important information on

  1. Account Balance as of the reporting date (top left): shows the current balance.

  2. Available funds today & at fiscal year end (top center): give a quick overview of the expected liquidity.

Chart (upper area)

There are various display options for the chart

  • Chart type (top left): Daily view (line chart) or bar chart showing the inflows and outflows for each selected period as well as the ending account balance of the respective period.

  • Time scale (top right): Switch between week, month, quarter or year. This adjusts how the columns are displayed.

  • Navigation (timeline): The arrows let you page backward and forward in the timeline to view future or past periods.

Note: Under ACCOUNT SETUP -> My Profile you can set the default view of the planning chart.

There you can set the default period (month or week) and the chart type (line or bar chart).

The chart itself shows the following:

  • The black line shows the course of the Actuals, i.e. payments actually made.

  • The blue line shows the forecast course, i.e. how cash develops further based on plan values and expected payments.

  • Red line (if available): stored liquidity limit to represent overdraft facilities, e.g. to show or detect shortfalls.
-> Set a limit per account here

  • Optional: activate the cash flow curves of other plans for direct comparison (toggle switch next to the plans in the drop-down menu)

Comparing several plans in the chart

After you have created or added plans, their cash flow curves can be compared directly in the chart. This shows at a glance how different assumptions affect future liquidity.

Steps:

  1. First create a new plan (e.g. a dynamic scenario or a static plan).

  2. Save the plan.

  3. Return to the Planning screen. The Forecast is selected here by default.

  4. Open the drop-down menu in the header.

  5. Select the plan or scenario you want, so that the plan is shown in the view. If you also want to see the plan line in the Forecast chart, activate the toggle to the right of the plan name.

The selected plans appear as additional lines in the chart and can be compared visually.

Planning table (lower area)

Below the chart is the table view, which shows all Forecast values in detail. It is the central workspace for liquidity planning.

  • Structured display of cash flow by category for the selected time scale

  • The rows show the breakdown into the categories of the direct cash flow method: Operating inflows (e.g. income), Operating outflows (e.g. personnel, materials) as well as Investing and Financing.

  • The columns "Actuals" and "FC" in the current period show how actual transactions and planned payments (plan budgets, taking open items into account) compare.

  • Available funds and the ending balance show the expected liquidity position at the end of the period.

  • The time scale can be set to week, month, quarter or year in the Planning view

The categories of the table can be adjusted as needed under TRANSACTIONS > Manage Categories, which allows precise detailed planning, e.g. which customer or project payments are expected.

Deviations between Actuals and Forecast are immediately visible in the current period, because COMMITLY shows a progress bar in the Forecast cell:

The green bar visualizes how much of the Forecast value has already been reached through actual transactions (e.g. for "Revenue A" in the cell with 55.343).

This shows at a glance whether the month is behind plan or the Forecast has already been exceeded, and you can adjust the planning directly.
