Missing transactions / transactions over a longer period?

Too little transaction history, bank only provides 3 months of transactions

There are several situations in which reloading transactions may be necessary:

  • you need a longer transaction history

  • a gap has arisen because no sync took place for a longer time

In all of these cases, the procedure is the same.

Unfortunately, the period of transactions delivered via the interface depends on the bank and how it has configured its PSD2 interface.

Some banks only deliver 90 days of transactions retroactively, while others deliver up to 48 months.

The legal regulation actually requires that the PSD2 interface provides the same period as online banking. However, some banks do not comply. Discussing this with bank advisors or those in charge is often not productive, which is why COMMITLY offers a workaround:

  • Find the date of the oldest transaction of your connected online account in COMMITLY (you can easily determine this using the chart on the Planning screen by selecting "Actuals" in the drop-down)

  • Export the desired period up to this date from your online banking as a CSV

  • Under "Company Settings" > "Bank Accounts", create an offline account

  • You can name it, for example, "Old bank" / "Account old transactions"; the account balance must be 0 (zero)

  • Upload the CSV file with transactions

The result:

  • You now have 2 connected accounts at the same bank (and actually with the same IBAN)

  • In total, the account balance is always kept correctly up to date (because the account with the "old" transactions has an account balance of 0)

  • The "old" transactions have been loaded.

Important note on banks' CSV export formats

The CSV file to be imported into COMMITLY actually has very few requirements. However, one data field is essential for a correct import: the transaction amount. It must be positive for inflows and negative for outflows. Many banks meet this.

However, we know of two banks whose CSV export cannot be imported 1:1 and has to be edited first.

Volksbank

Volksbank CSV rows always have positive amounts in the amount column and indicate the type (debit or credit booking) in a separate column with S/H.

The following formula in a new column can help here:

=IF(cell_with_indicator="S"; cell_with_amount*-1; cell_with_amount)

Deutsche Bank

Deutsche Bank lists the amounts with the correct sign, but has separate columns for debit and credit. Here, a new column must be set up in which both amounts are combined. The following formula in the new column can help:

=SUM(column_debit:column_credit)
