IMPORTANT NOTES

The bank account is connected using access data (or EBICS participant data) that you receive from your bank. You should therefore request your EBICS access data from your bank in advance.

Within COMMITLY, roles such as Owner, Admin and Processor can connect banks. The bank connection is made in the same way as the regular connection as described here.

From the Business Edition onwards, EBICS access can be activated as a chargeable add-on. From the Professional Edition onwards, EBICS access is integrated as standard in the scope of services of the edition.

What is EBICS?

EBICS (Electronic Banking Internet Communication Standard) is a Europe-wide standard for secure and efficient electronic payment transactions. It enables the management of accounts at various banks and optionally the processing of payments.

Difference to PSD2 / FinTS - Connections

While COMMITLY uses the PSD2 (XS2A), HBCI / FinTS interfaces as standard for connecting your bank accounts, EBICS is a technical standard that is independent of individuals and is supported by many banks.

This means that EBICS is a “connect and forget” interface. Firstly, unlike PSD2 / FinTS, the connection is NOT linked to a natural person and secondly, once set up, the connection does not need to be renewed regularly. This means that the confirmation every 90 to 180 days of consent to the account query (TAN confirmation) known from PSD2 is no longer necessary with EBICS.

Regardless of the interface used, COMMITLY ensures that your account access credentials are not stored by COMMITLY at any time. COMMITLY has no access to this data. The connection to your bank accounts is read-only and is used exclusively to synchronize and reconcile your transactions. COMMITLY cannot execute transactions or initiate payments at any time. Highly secure SHA 256-bit with RSA encryption is used for all connections to protect your data.

Step-by-step: Setting up a new EBICS connection

To set up a new EBICS connection in COMMITLY, follow these steps:

1. Request the EBICS access data from your bank - please note that the EBICS access may only have the following authorizations:

  • Authorizations (Grants): C53 or STA for the transmission of account balance and transactions

  • Authorizations (AuthorizationLevel) = "T" for transactions

  • CCT (SEPA Credit Transfer)

  • CDB (SEPA Direct Debit for companies)*

  • CDD (SEPA Direct Debit for end users)*

* Optional

2. Create new connection - Navigate in COMMITLY to the area for bank accounts under ACCOUNT SETUP > My bank accounts. Select ADD BANK and click on "EBICS connection" under Connection type.

You will be redirected to a web form provided by BANKSapi where you will be asked to select your bank and then enter the access data you have received from your bank. This includes

  • Bank URLs

  • Hostname

  • Customer ID

  • Participant ID

3. Print and submit "INI letter" - After entering the data, COMMITLY will generate a so-called "INI letter" for you, which will be made available for download. This "analog part" of the setup is important: print out the INI letter, sign it and send it to your account-holding bank.

4. Activation by your bank - Now it's your bank's turn: it must activate EBICS access using the INI letter. During this waiting period, you can check the status of the connection at any time in your COMMITLY area. After successful activation, the status changes to “activated”. From this moment on, you can use your accounts via EBICS with COMMITLY.

Congratulations! Your new EBICS connection has now been successfully set up.
