Deviations on the planning screen

Deviations from the plan are shown in COMMITLY by icons:

  • Green = positive deviation

  • Red = negative deviation

Example:

If you had planned income of €2,000 in October but €2,500 was actually received, a green deviation is shown.

Clicking the green checkmark opens the side panel.

In the side panel, you can decide how to handle the deviation. Two options are available:

  1. Do not adjust the planning of future months

  2. Adjust the planning of future months

Not adjusting future months

An example is unexpected additional expenses that were not included in the original planning / considerations for the fiscal year either.

If these expenses lead to an actual increase in the total expenses of the fiscal year, nothing further needs to be done.

But what if it is only a timing shift, or the expenses were unexpected but the overall budget of the category should not increase, i.e. the unexpected expenses are to be offset by savings in the following months?

Adjusting the planning of future months (the forecast)

In this case, the planning can simply be adjusted. The deviation can be handled in 2 ways:

  • Simply move it to the next month, the month after, etc. OR

  • spread it evenly across the following months.

For the specific example here: accounting expenses in August 2025

Planned expenses were EUR 1,364

Actuals in August were zero, i.e. no expenses were incurred

The reason is a late payment, i.e. it is not a "real" deviation, but only a timing shift. In this case, you would select the options:

  • Yes, adjust forecast

  • Move deviation by 1 month
