Special use: copying a Plan to create a Plan based on the previous year

Create a copy of an existing Plan to quickly create variants and compare Plans with each other.

Goal: At the start of a fiscal year, a new Plan for the current year is to be created, based on a development similar to the previous year (top-down approach).

Procedure:

  1. First create a Plan with the period of the previous year (e.g. 2025-to-copy) and select Actuals as the base

  2. This creates a Plan containing all Actuals of the previous year

  3. Then switch to “Manage Plans”.
Select the Plan created earlier (2025-to-copy) and click the gear icon on the right.

  4. Select the option “Copy” and set the desired period (e.g. 2026).
→ The new Plan is created with all values from the previous year and can then be adjusted.

  5. Afterwards, either set the temporary previous-year Plan (2025-to-copy) to inactive or delete it if it is no longer needed

This is typically used whenever a new fiscal year starts and the planning is not to be rebuilt from scratch but should be guided by the results of the previous year.

Example:

A company creates its budget Plan every year in January.

  • In 2025, it had stable revenue and expenses.

  • For 2026, the development is expected to be similar, only with adjustments (e.g. +10% revenue growth, higher personnel costs, a new investment).

Instead of entering all budgets from scratch, the previous year’s Plan is simply copied. Finance managers then adjust individual values to the expectations for 2026.
