For payments with your COMMITLY company card, individual merchants may charge an additional fee. This so-called merchant surcharge usually serves to cover the costs of card processing. Whether such a surcharge is permitted depends on the applicable legal regulations.
How can I recognize a merchant surcharge?
The merchant must inform you of the surcharge before the payment is completed and obtain your consent. The fee is usually shown directly on the card terminal before you confirm the payment. It should be listed separately on the terminal payment receipt, which may differ from the restaurant or shopping bill.
Who charges this fee?
The surcharge is charged by the merchant, not by COMMITLY or our card partner Swan. COMMITLY has no influence on whether a merchant charges such a surcharge. Company cards from other providers can also be affected.
How can I avoid additional fees?
Before buying or ordering, ask whether a surcharge applies to your company card. If an additional fee is shown on the terminal, you can cancel the payment before confirming and agree on an alternative payment method without a surcharge with the merchant.
