Some merchants may charge an additional fee when you pay with your COMMITLY business card. This fee, known as a merchant surcharge, typically helps cover card processing costs. Whether a surcharge is permitted depends on the applicable local regulations.
How do I recognise a merchant surcharge?
The merchant must inform you of the surcharge and obtain your consent before completing the payment. The fee is usually displayed on the card terminal before you confirm the transaction. It should appear separately on the terminal receipt, which may differ from your restaurant bill or purchase receipt.
Who charges this fee?
The surcharge is applied by the merchant, not by COMMITLY or our card partner Swan. COMMITLY has no control over whether a merchant applies a surcharge. Business cards from other providers may also be subject to these fees.
How can I avoid additional fees?
Before making a purchase or placing an order, ask whether a surcharge applies to your business card. If an additional fee appears on the terminal, you can cancel the payment before confirming it and ask the merchant for an alternative payment method without a surcharge.
