MCP Server requirements
The following requirements apply to using the COMMITLY MCP Server:
an active COMMITLY subscription with the MCP add-on
a free MCP seat for the company
Account Owner or Admin permissions to activate the add-on
an AI assistant that supports MCP, Remote HTTP, and OAuth (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude, or Cursor)
Activate the MCP Server
The COMMITLY MCP Server can be activated via ADD-ONS > API Integration.
To do so, select the "Connect" option for the COMMITLY MCP Server. If no free seat is available yet, a purchase dialog is shown first. After successful activation, the SETTINGS > Integrations area opens automatically.
View connection details (MCP)
After activation, all information for connecting the AI assistant is available under SETTINGS > Integrations.
The following details are shown:
Connection type
Endpoint URL
Required scope
Suggested harness prompt
These details are then used to set up the AI assistant.
Connect the AI assistant
The MCP connection is set up in the AI assistant being used.
The following details are usually used for this:
Connection type: Remote HTTP
Endpoint URL: from COMMITLY – important: always use the URL from the activated MCP integration in COMMITLY.
Scope: mcp:tools
After saving, the COMMITLY login opens automatically.
The connection method usually differs depending on the model used.
After successful login and selection of the desired company, the connection to the released COMMITLY data is available.
What can the MCP Server do?
After a successful connection, the AI assistant can, depending on permissions, for example:
retrieve categories
view transactions
map transactions
retrieve invoices
create or edit invoices
manage plans and budgets
retrieve forecasts
view bank accounts
The available functionality corresponds to the COMMITLY Public API.
Disconnect the MCP connection
To remove the connection:
Open SETTINGS > Integrations.
Remove it using the "Disconnect" option for the COMMITLY MCP Server.
The connection is removed for this company. Billing for the MCP seat ends at the end of the term already paid.
MCP Server FAQ
I do not see the COMMITLY MCP Server.
Please check whether:
your subscription supports the MCP add-on.
you have the required permissions.
you are in a company and not in a company group.
Where do I find the API key?
The COMMITLY MCP Server does not use a static API key.
The connection is made through a secure login while setting up the AI assistant.
Which AI assistants are supported?
The COMMITLY MCP Server can be used with AI assistants that support Remote HTTP and OAuth as well as the MCP protocol, for example:
